Immigration Family Petitions
US citizens and permanent residents can petition permanent residency for their qualifying relatives. The following criteria must be met to qualify:
- The petitioner must be either a United States Citizen or a permanent resident (green card holder) and able to demonstrate the relationship to the foreign national. The following categories may apply:

- Child under 21 years old
- Unmarried son or daughter over 21 years old
- Married son or daughter
- Brother or sister of US citizen
- Parent of US citizen
- The petitioner must be able to be a sponsor by proving to income at or above 125% of the poverty line. A co-sponsor can be used to meet this threshold.
Preference Categories:
Petitions for qualifying relatives are divided into preference categories. Each preference level is limited to a certain amount per year. These preference categories will dictate how long a particular applicant must wait for an immigrant visa.
